Not quite as unbalanced as SB1 Sorcery, but much better on the fly.

Well, if you had a mage with a 12 Power (not exactly world-shakingly hard to do or end up with) then you could easily toss 5 4d6 attacks out, that by strict reading of the rules auto-hit if you made the casting check. Two of those would take down most human targets pretty reliably, maybe one in many cases.
