I read Goldfinger and For Your Eyes Only years ago, so I have at least an slight idea of the differences between movie-Bond and novel-Bond. I was shocked when I discovered that Bond had a human side, after all
(like in "The Hildebrand Rarity", "Quantum of Solace" and "For Your Eyes Only")!
I agree with you in that later movies disfigured and mocked the character rather than portraying it.
