I'm mostly worried because I think a negative review has more power to hurt than a positive one can help.

I've considered doing a "fair and balanced" review of the book. However it's a pretty freakin huge rpg book and I've been checking out specific sections, rather than the overall book. As far as reviews go, I think most of us will need a bit of time to properly digest and regurgitate our feelings on the book.

Reviews shouldn't take into account anything but what the reviewer thought of the thing being reviewed.
So what if BRP Zero isn't ready for publication? It is available, people are spending a lot of money buying it and it is being shipped as a product. I can't review it as I haven't got a copy and I won't buy a copy for reasons stated elsewhere. If I had money to burn then I probably would buy it and if anyone else has money to burn and buys me a copy as a gift (hint, hint) then I'd gladly accept it and do a review. But, saying that we shouldn't review it because it isn't ready for publication when it clearly is ready for publication and is being sold is wrong. But, when people review BRP Zero they should make clear that the review isn't for the finished product and only applies to the pre-release preview. By the way, I've never really cared about doing a negative review. If something is bad or has peoblems then they should be mentioned in the review. If games companies want good reviews they should produce good, high quality material. I've absolutely no sympathy for companies that produce crap and then complain about bad reviews.
