If you've had a bad binding they'll replace it, which is all you can ask. They've always offered this and followed through.

I've bought a lot of the SFMRQ books and they've all held up. My Players Guide binding was pretty sloppy - though it never fell apart (I gave it a few good shakes and such too just to see), but it was one of the very first books off their new press. I waited a while before getting newer books and the ones I've had since have been much better.

Really? I'm happy for you. And I am telling you I have seen a dozen bad copies of recent Mongoose books, esp. the EC line, and I don't believe they can replace all of them, without a blanket recall. Somehow I don't think that will happen unless there is a way to make more money.

Yes, some of these books have been worse than the old GW Stormbringer book. They are poorly constructed and poorly laid out and printed.

Well Hawkmoon and Elric were also early off their press, and the first copy of Hawkmoon I laid hands on was pretty bad. But the books off their in house press I've picked up lately have been fine.

Poor lay out of course is a problem, I hate the Elric page backgrounds - but that really is not a binding /printing issue (unless it was intended to be lighter, but the PDF preview looks the same so I think that is not the case).

And honestly, I know of many others who have had their books replaced at no cost and not heard of anyone who hasn't if they've tried. If you know of people who have actually bought bad copies and then not had the SFM replace them if they ask that will change my opinion on this matter.

When they jumped into printing their own books they didn't really have anyone who knew what they were doing (I see a theme there... ) and there were definately problems. The books coming off their press now are much better than the early ones, and to the best of my knowledge they've replaced every copy someone has aked them to, which is all you can ask.

I am very antsy about this, but I still hope they take the time to do it right. It probably will be sometime next year, I suppose.

Jason Dural just posted on the Basic_Roleplaying Yahoo! Group that he'll deliver in the last part of the manuscript within 24 hours, so maybe we can hope for a 2007 release after all?
