Just my personal oppinion.
Sorry... you've lost me there. Do you mean I should spend *more* money giving my custom to some other online supplier which I never visit, when Amazon do it better and more cheaply? Why would I do that?

Not all of us have a "FLGS", you know... If it wasn't for Amazon, I for one would have a very difficult time getting access to English-language books, CDs, DVDs, and computer programs...

What is FLGS?

I'm ordering through Amazon.com because I'm low on money and I want the BRP book. Amazon.com has a very good deal with their Super Saver shipping.

No matter what, Chaosium is getting a fair share of the money otherwise they wouldn't sell their products through Amazon.

And I agree that Amazon is definitely the most reliable for ordering online. Overall, I think they do it better than any other online business.

Ok, let's try posting again!

The FLGS means Friendly Local Gaming Store.

Now what I originally tried to say is...

I'm all for supporting my FLGS, but sometimes, they can't get a hold of things and really don't carry Chaosium products. I could order the item from them as a special order, but they've been unable to get items in the past due to their distributors not carrying the items in question. So while I want to support them, when it comes to things they don't normally carry, I buy via the internet at places like, oh Amazon or straight from the manufacturer if I can.

Well I for one support my FLGS. Which generally means I pay top dollar, and have to wait longer than those who preorder it online or directly from the publisher - but at least I can rest peacefully at night knowing that I am helping support a place for a bunch of people half my age and that I will rarely, if ever, game with to play GW miniatures games at.

The LGS in my hometown was awful. One of the last times I visited, I wanted to special-order something from Chaosium; when I inquired at the counter, the clerk just looked at me blankly and asked, "What's Chaosium?"

EDIT to add: After making my Sanity check, I had to explain to the kid that there's more to the RPG world than White Wolf and Wizards of the Co$t...

I'm looking at all the Amazon and Chaosium blurb for the book. Where's the hardback version?

Unfortunately, I don't think it exists yet...

They haven't announced one yet.

I don't know if it's a guarantee that they will (sales of the softcover are usually the determining factor).

You can always email Chaosium and let them know you're interested.

Case in point. The recent release of Mongoose Traveller was sold out in one week. They had to order another printing run. It was completely sold through FLGS's and their online equivalents (see some suggestions below). Amazon, Waterstones, etc. (i.e., the larger companies) haven't yet obtained their copies and are unlikely until next month. Lots of people have therefore canceled their orders and gone to smaller businesses.

Granted, Mongoose have a policy of supporting FLGSs. In fact, if you order something from their web site, they have a message that effectively says, don't buy direct from us, but buy from a FLGS instead.

I of course don't know what will happen in the case of BRP, but it's very, very small business compared to most other things Amazon deal with. I doubt they will be busting a gut to get it in and out as soon as possible. Thus, you may well pay a bit more if you buy it elsewhere, but I suspect you'll get it sooner.

Leisure Games - always have things in asap.
IGUK: Infinity Games UK - Gaming Collectables Board Games CCG TCG Miniatures RPG - sell things often at discount and with free postage
Legendgames - great games, great prices, great service.
Spirit Games, supplying gamers with board games, card games, roleplaying games, d20, wargames and miniatures, for 20 years.
RPG Shop: Role Playing Games, Miniatures, Dice, War Games, Board Games, Paints, and more!
etc.
etc.

I use Amazon to search for used games only, everything else I buy via E-mail
at my favourite game shop.
They have the games earlier than Amazon, deliver as fast as Amazon, do not
charge for postage with orders above 17,- €, and their prices are only slight-
ly higher than Amazon's - in some cases they have even been lower.
Moreover, they answer questions, give advice, and try to find sources for the
sometimes unusual independent games I am interested in. Thanks to them, I
had my copy of the Thousand Suns RPG before Amazon even realized that it
existed.
