A call for games from Evilgaz

Greetings!

At the prestigious, inaugural Con-Quest I shall be your dashing host for games of all varieties. We’d like to encourage you all to put on games - RPGs, CCGs, Board Games, Miniatures, whatever you like – and are considering how we can reward the noble souls who step forward to run/facilitate something; it will probably be free entry into the event for the day, but I know that the vibrant UK gaming scene will be full of eager volunteers whether this is the case or not!

To register your game(s) before the convention, you will need to email me at the gaming hotline address (evilgaz@ukroleplayers.com) and I’ll see to it that you’re booked in with a table and advertised on the website in a timely fashion just as soon as we’ve got the fully functioning site in place. Pass on to me the usual sort of details:

GM/Facilitator

Title of Game

System (if different from above)

Max Number of Players

Length of Game

Short Description (up to 500 words)

Tags(any short, snappy key words, such as age, experience needed, drop in or sign up?)

e.g. PG13, newbie friendly, fairly traditional, pirates, funny accents

We’re a fairly broad church and if you want to run something, we’re here to support you . From D&D 4e to Polaris via Dead of Night and Savage Worlds, traditional to radical, chess to Heroclix, demo game to playtest, Last Night on Earth to Warmachine – label up what you want to run and we’ll do our best to promote it and provide you what you need from the venue.

To avoid clashes and overlaps the day will be split into two slots for games that will run for 3.5 or 4 hours with a gap in between for food, refreshments, wandering the trade hall, etc.

Day will be split into slots

Slot 1 = 10:30 until 14:00

Slot 2 = 15:00 until 19:00

Any questions or queries drop me a line at evilgaz@ukroleplayers.com and I’ll do my best to answer them when I can.

I look forward to seeing a bursting schedule of diverse games and know that the UK gaming community won’t disappoint!

Gaz (Evil)

Run A Game - Get In Free!

Well its that time of year, the festiveness has well and truly faded and being stuck indoors really sucks when there's nothing to do... but wait - how about you get yourself a con scenario together, or learn the secrets of that new boardgame you got for Christmas?

Here at Con-Quest we like things simple (like us), so here's the deal. Get yourself a game together and mail me the details (evilgaz@ukroleplayers.com) and I’ll see to it that you’re booked in with a table, and better still that you get in for free on the day. Get booked in early enough and you can choose where you want to be. We've got plenty of tables in the main hall which is great for demos and boisterous action, there's the quieter Reception Suite and chilled and sophisticated '45 Suite, ideal for relaxed games.

Pass on to me the usual sort of details and I'll get your name on the guest list and a table of choice marked for your use.

Here is another one of our great traders/game publishers.

D101 Games is a small press company based in the Manchester area putting out story driven roleplaying games, since 2008. We have our roots in the D100/Gloranthan community and continue to support that via our fanzine ‘Hearts in Glorantha’, our complete D100 game “OpenQuest” and its supplements of which the Swords and Sorcery setting “The Savage North” is the first.

d101logo-rising.jpg

We are also moving into new territory with the release of ‘Wordplay: The Big Five’, a universal story telling engine where description links seemlessly with a d6 dice mechanic supported by four unique settings, and the upcoming release of ‘Monkey: The Storytelling Game’ of the ‘Journey to the West’.

Our demo Games masters will be running games of ‘OpenQuest: Savage North’ and ‘Monkey’ during the con.

As well as copies of ‘Hearts in Glorantha’ and ‘OpenQuest’, we will also be debutting ‘The Savage North’ and ‘Wordplay: The Big Five’ at Con-Quest.

We are very excited to announce another trader/publisher – Mongoose!

Based in Swindon, UK, Mongoose Publishing was founded in 2001 and within 6 months became the UK’s largest publisher of roleplaying games. Initially concentrating on d20 based products, Mongoose Publishing’s first book was the Slayers Guide to Hobgoblins, part of the Slayers Guide series of books. Subsequent product lines followed in rapid succession with the release of the Encyclopaedia Arcane, Travellers Tales, Quintessnential and Cities of Fantasy series of books.

mongoose.png

Mongoose has earned a reputation for producing quality licensed products to sit alongside their generic fantasy ranges and their first licensed book, the Judge Dredd roleplaying game, proved to be an instant hit. Further licensed products followed with roleplaying games based on Slaine, Babylon 5, Conan, Lone Wolf, Macho Women with Guns, Paranoia and Runequest. Mongoose’s newest licenced roleplaying game, Traveller, brings back the classic science fiction roleplaying game.

Mongoose Publishing’s miniatures games and roleplaying games continue to provide gamers with fantastic worlds in which to immerse themselves, and the company has become a recognised force in the world of hobby games.

We are pleased to announce that we have LeCardo at Con-Quest!

LeCardo is a playing-card word game that works by adding words together to make compounds or other idiomatic matches such as housework, break-in, time off etc. It’s easy to pick up and play but be warned- it’s no pushover!

Whilst LeCardo doesn’t fall into the traditional spectrum of ‘hobby’ games, it nevertheless provides a fun diversion from longer games, and is not without strategic play.

We are pleased to be celebrating our third anniversary this year, having first published in March 2007.

The aftershow party will be at the Brunswick Inn near the Derby Railway Station.

Derby%20Pubs%20The%20Brunswick.jpg

From 19:00 to late in the upstairs part of the building. Some games may even break out there as well!

Built in 1842, and nearly pulled down in the Eighties, the Brunswick is a red brick, triangular shaped building at the end of a row of former railway workers' cottages. The station is a couple of minutes away, which makes it very handy if you have time to kill between trains.

They brew their own beer here, with the kit on show at the end of the stone-flagged corridor, such home-brewed delights as the bittersweet and refreshing Triple Hop or the dark and coffee-like Rockin' Johnny's Derby Pride. There were 14 real ales on offer, half of them brewed on the premises. Beer nirvana. Nicely priced too!

£1.80 for a pint of White feather beer!
