The Green - Trade and Trade Goods

Among the things that make a region and its cultures "special" are the trade
goods of the region, the things it is known and famous for.
Besides, these goods usually are the base for the major trade routes, which
are the most important (and often only) connections with other regions.
The trade goods could also help to give "colour" to the different cultures of The
Green. Some cultures will "specialize" in certain goods - one may produce
excellent woodcarvings, another one may have unique knowledge of medici-
nal herbs, and so on.

Here is a short incomplete list of some possible trade goods from The Green.
Some of these goods could have special properties (magical for fantasy, bio-
chemical for science fiction, etc.).

living plants (e.g. flowers)

living animals (e.g. pets)

fruits and nuts
Grapes [N]
Olives [N]

herbs (e.g. medicinal herbs)

Rice [S]

Tobacco [N]

wood (e.g. hardwoods)

plant fibres (e.g. for textiles)

gums, glue and resins (e.g. amber, incense)
Boat Resin (used to waterproof boats etc.) [N]
Bone Resin (used for armor, weapons and tools etc.) [N]
Cloth Resin (used to waterproof textiles, paper etc.) [N]
Godwood Incense (magical / unusual properties) [N - rarely for sale]

Blue Indigo [S]

perfumes

spices

liquor
Brandy [N]

Syrup [N]

furs and leather
Humpback Hide [S]

ivory and ivory carvings
Humpback Tusks [S]

giant insect chitin
Spined Worm Chitin (armor) [N]

Shellac [N]

Spider Rope [N]

animal venoms

artworks (e.g. woodcarvings)

relics (of ancient civilizations)

information / knowledge

[N] = produced by the Nifara
- the Nifara operate a trade network throughout most of The Green

[S] = produced by the Soolie

Of course, this is just a start. While we develop the sub-regions of The Green
and their unique races / cultures, we can decide what exactly they have to offer
to the world (and the adventurers): The names and properties of resins and herbs,
the creatures that are traded as pets, the relics found in ancient ruins ...
