Mongoose originally planned to call the game "Wayfarers", but there was
already a roleplaying game with that name, so in the end the game was
    named "Legend".

Ironically a bunch of guys named their revision of D&D "Legend" shortly before Mongoose did. Naming your game with a single word from the dictionary is always fraught with peril.

But now Mongoose is selling something called Wayfarers so the question is: is it related to Legend in any way ?

No. It's the aforementioned pre-existing RPG, which harks back to 1st edition D&D.

To really mix things up, we need to come up with a supplement entitled Wayfarers of Legend.

We could also suggest that the new Mongoose book ship with a label on its front cover: "No, no. I am Legend!"

But then it might be confused with a certain novel and movie.

Sadly a leg end is either a foot or an arse.

Still CoC(k) survived for decades so it might all work out
Of course it's in my personal bloody opinion. There does exist the slim chance though that I'm right.
